The Blooming Cycle of a Dragon Fruit

You might be wondering how a dragon fruit bears fruit. That's my question the first time I saw it's beautiful bloom. I find it really fascinating as a grower. Let me show it in series of pictures without rambling. Promise, it's exciting!

You will see a flower bud like this smaller than a marble.

A few days after ,the bud will grow even bigger like this.

The bud will continue to grow daily and looks like this.

On the 10th day the buds will look like these. Inspiring right?

The night before it blooms, you will take a peek of the white petals. You will see baby pink or dark pink depending on its variety. It's like peeking into a box of surprises.
That's how exciting it is!

This lady has bloomed the night before. Reason why it's called Lady of the Night.
Taken between 6am to 7am. The best time to collect pollens. So fresh right?

After blooming it will start to wither like this.

The petals will wither more till it dries out, after two to three days. Beauty fades away.💡

Look at our first fruit!  It's growing bigger as of this writing, up until it turns pink. I spoke to my farm manager (my hubby of course) to have our first fruit given as a gift for my dad's 60th birthday. For one condition, he will pick it himself (for a selfie opp of course!)

This is it. Our first fruit ripened.

Enjoy growing your own dragon fruit garden like us and receive it's amazing rewards. I will update this post by June 2017 and add that pinkish fruit here.

Up next: The primary purpose of a flower is reproduction.
Many flowers have important symbolic meanings. What does a flower means to a dragon fruit grower like me?  I will share more insights on my next posts.
